News - Nwabueze Nwokolo seeks re-election to Law Society Council BME seat

The Law Society Council elections are looming and this year seven candidates are chasing the three seats up for grabs. Those looking for your vote, in alphabetical order, are: Sundeep Singh Bhatia, Colin Leyland Patrick Bobb-Semple, Mohammed Nawaz Khan, Philip Do Youn Kim, Pragnesh Modhwadia, Nwabueze Nwokolo and Mohammad Aslan Sheikh.
Voting papers for the constituency are sent only to those Law Society members who have given explicit consent to receiving notices based on ethnicity. Anyone eligible to vote who has not already consented to receive voting papers should contact Sue Sutcliffe (sue.sutcliffe@lawsociety.org.uk) or Chris Galley (chris.galley@lawsociety.org.uk) at the Law Society with their address and roll number by 23rd May when the voting papers will be distributed. Nwabueze, the Chair of the Black solicitors Network (BSN) and one of the incumbent Ethnic Minority members at the Law Society is seeking re-election to the Law Society Council. A director of BSN since 2005, she has led the Midlands chapter and had responsibility for pastoral care, based on her expertise as family lawyer and mediator. She chaired the Group Equality and Diversity of the Law Society between 2007 and 2010 and co-chaired the Minority Lawyers’ Conference, hosted by the Law Society, in 2011. She is on the Legal Affairs and Policy Board of the Law Society and is a member of the SRA External Implementation Group. Nwabueze has worked with the Law Society on issues concerning BME solicitors on regulatory matters as well as those concerning Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates(QASA), the JAC and the regulation of BME solicitors. 
Sundeep, who is also seeking re-election, specialises in employment law and is proprietor of Beaumonde Law Practice in Pinner and a consultant to Julian Young and Co solicitors in Marylebone. Sundeep wears many hats, as a Solicitor Advocate with Higher Rights (Criminal), an accredited mediator and a Duty Solicitor. He co-chaired the Minority Lawyers’ Conference, alongside Nwabueze, in 2011. He has sat on the Law Society’s Diversity and Equality Committee and Employment Law Committee, as well as serving as a member of the Law Society’s Regulatory Affairs Board. Sundeep is also a member of the SRA External Implementation Group representing. He was chairman of the Society of Asian Lawyers and remains a member of its committee. He’s also a keen blog writer.
Colin Bobb-Semple is an LPC Law Lecturer with extensive experience of teaching on the Bar Course. Colin's experience also includes 12 years in running his own former practice in London and 7 years as a member of the Bar Council’s Race Relations Committee, where he contributed to the formulation of the Equality Code for barristers. Colin received a Lifetime Award from BSN in 2007 for his achievements in legal education and in practice.
