BLD held its successful Black History Month event on the 5th October 2006 at Clifford Chance's London Head Office, in Canary Wharf. Attendees included Mrs Justice Dobbs, Shami Chakrabarti, Dr John Roberts QC, Trevor Faure, Brenda King and Dame Lorna Boreland-Kelly.

Welcoming the attendees was Clifford Chance's Head of Public Policy, Michael Smyth. Debo Nwauzu, the solicitor founder and Managing Director of BLD, spoke of the origin of Black History Month, some of the BME trailblazers and about BLD. Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty, gave a characteristicly passionate, yet thought-provoking keynote speech about the talents and achievements of BMEs, whilst Dr John Roberts QC brought the house down in his live interview with Segun Osuntokun, a partner at DLA Piper.

Debo and Anthony Robinson, the Legal Director at the CRE, officially launched the joint CRE/BLD publication: Black Letter Law. Anthony spoke about the importance of this unique publication and the paucity of information about BMEs in the legal profession.
