In 2006, a few months after BLD was launched, Debo Nwauzu, its founder, approached Anthony Robinson, the then Legal Director of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE), seeking his support for a publication to showcase the contributions of ethnic minorities within the legal profession in the UK. The CRE agreed, but the task was not as easy as first thought! There was simply no record of such contributions and neither the Bar Council of England and Wales, nor the Law Society of England and Wales were able to help. Nevertheless, Black Letter Law 2006, a 22-page booklet, was published and launched on 5 October 2006 at a Black History Month event, sponsored by Clifford Chance. Debo wrote and published the 164-page Black Letter Law 2007 alone, relying on advertising in the publication to help meet the costs. See the Black Letter Law Publication Story video for the journey so far. For information about the 2012 publication, view The Black Letter Law 2012 video. We remain committed to making this a permanent annual publication as part of our aim to highlight and promote diversity within the legal profession by showcasing the wealth of talent and the contributions made by Black, Asian and other ethnic, past and present. The 2012 edition is available to purchase as a paperback, an ebook on Amazon (for use on Kindle Fire), Kobo, iBookstore and other well-known ebook retailers. Furthermore it is also online with its own dedicated Black Letter Law Publication website. Black Letter Law 2012 preview
